That much more unique to the rest of the world, but it doesn't end there.
About a week ago, a very good friend of mine said she didn't like Oprah Winfrey. Although I am not a cheerleader for Oprah or her personal PR campaign, I do enjoy her show and believe her to be bright and extremely industrious. When I asked this friend exactly why she didn't like Oprah, she told me "Because Oprah caters to a white audience." That is an extremely harsh criticism. I could've accepted "She's phony" or "I don't like the people she has on" or "She's boring" or "Just doesn't interest me". But to basically state that Oprah gets up in the morning and says "I am going to make white people really happy today" is, in my opinion, unfounded and borderline slanderous. Without going over the entire details of the conversation, none of the reasons she stated supported her position. Sadly, this isn't the first time I've heard something like this out of the mouth of one of my peers. | Continue nOvaslim's "Our Little Problem" series, starting with "Keeping It Real vs. Keeping It Right," continuing with "Idol Schmidol" and his third installment, "Who Stole the Soul?" posted in weblogs on October 9, 2003 1:24 AM | t (2) « Previous phile: He is prepared to assume the role. » Next phile: Equity in education for all Americans remains a goal that we must strive to reach. Ask your friend Oprah why she have not answer over 50+ e-mail on Airing a program on why Black American only have only one U.S.Senator. We should have 12 Senate base on the population of 36 millon. Black American. We are fighting for Democary in Iraq. What about Democary in America for Black people. I think Oprah is a Ass Kissing white man Tabloid Queen....What we need to Ask Tabloid Queen Oprah will she support a Constitutional Amendment to give Black American Equal Representation in the U.S.Senate.... Emmett Negrophile replies: Black America would have twelve senators if all 36 million black folks lived clustered together in, say, six average-sized states. (If we all lived in smaller-population states like New Mexico, North and South Dakota and Rhode Island, then we'd have access to more senators.) But we live as the Census counts us, proportionally spread out (check this map out). And e-mails and name-calling aside, would those facts fill an Oprah Winfrey show? Emmett, July 5, 2005 1:54 PM
