I'm not going to get in the way of Deborah Gabriel's Black Britain article "Government accused of 'Colonialism' over plans to rename ethnic minorities: Home Office Minister Hazel Blears is toying with the idea of using US-style ethnic naming. But whilst this may go down well in America, some feel that people should be allowed to construct their own identity." posted in articles on August 8, 2005 5:39 PM | t (0) « Previous phile: John H. Interesting read. I recently wrote an article that deals with this very topic, from a slightly different standpoint - http://www.popmatters.com/features/050614-arabidentity.shtml Hot topic these days, certainly. Josie, August 8, 2005 6:19 PM
This is an interesting article. I think the key thing is what do you want to be called. We are the ones who defined ourselves, not the government. If other British citizens wanted to be called something else, why did they wait to be asked? Cynthia, August 17, 2005 2:42 PM
