All I have to add to Jack Shafer's excellent Slate article "Lost in the Flood: Why no mention of race or class in TV's Katrina coverage?" is that you give to legitimate hurricane-recovery efforts or start your own.

They don't want to deal with the real issues in New Orleans. This is what they would have to do if they answer the question...

Amen! Yes yes yes. I watched white news anchors on CNN and Fox try to get black interviewees to state on record that it is not a racial issue. No, the storm didn't hit black people because the storm is racist! Yes the poor were left behind and it is a class issue. Howeve is it a *coincidence* that blacks are disproportionately poor given our country's social history? Give me a break.
