'Feeds me spiritually a whole lot more than a choir service.'

George August Stallings Jr., who crossed a spiritual Rubicon of his own 15 years ago, has advice for the Rev. William Hausen of Sewickley.
"Once one makes that leap, to step out of Roman Catholicism ... one does not look back. Once Hausen makes this move, there's no turning back," Stallings said.

Stallings should know. The black ex-priest was excommunicated after breaking with the Roman Catholic Church in 1989 after clashing with an ecclesiastical hierarchy dominated by white men.
