Former City Attorney Benjamin Hall perked up the audience at Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church with anecdotes, a joke and some words of wisdom. If he really wanted to cause a stir on the stage filled with young men earning Eagle Scout pins, though, he could have said, "Would the son of the 18th District congressperson please stand up?" He would have seen three young men rise at once. Boy Scouts of America officials said it was rare enough that one Scouting troop would promote 14 boys to Eagle Scout at the same time, even more rare that 13 of them would be African-American youngsters. Troop 242 went one step further -- pinning honors on three sons of current or past members of the same congressional district. Former political adversaries Sheila Jackson Lee and Craig Washington met their sons on stage on Saturday, as did Alison Leland Brisco, widow of the late Congressman Mickey Leland, who held the inner-city Houston congressional seat before his death.
