"We had Anthony Ervin on the men's team in 2000, not a black woman. It's kind of a little bit of a shame that there's not as many minorities involved, but I hope by Anthony and I making the team, that can jumpstart more minorities getting involved. [...] I think swimming is a very expensive sport, and we don't have the kind of facilities that we would like in every city. If we just get the facilities put up and get more people involved and just have more role models in general, we can get them motivated to do swimming. It's a great sport to be in.
